PIRINOA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Pirinoa Women’s Institute Mrs Spicer presided over a fair attendance of members. The secretary (Mrs Priest) submitted a report of the activities of the Institute during the past year, which revealed that the sum of £93 had been expended on parcels for local soldiers overseas. Financial assistance had been extended to the Leper Mission, Blind Institute and Red Cross Society. Points prizes for the year were won by Mrs Spicer, with Mrs Lovegrove second, while that for the best bloom went to Mrs O’Brien. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs Atkinson; vice-president, Mrs J. Carter; secretary, Mrs J. Priest; treasurer, Mrs Seward; committee, Mesdames D. J. Mclntosh, Sutton, .Lovegrove, Macdonald, Seward, and Miss D. Priest. The hostesses were Mesdames Tilson and Spicer. TRIBAL COMMITTEE ENJOYABLE GATHERING. The Pirinoa Tribal Committee held a most successful euchre party and dance on Friday evening when there was a large attendance. The prizes at euchre were won by Mrs Spicer and Mrs Taylor in the ladies’ section, and R..Ruka and S. Antony in the men’s section. Songs, poi dances, instrumental solos, and war dances were given during the evening. The produce stall, which was in charge of Mrs D. Mclntosh, was well patronised and a total clearance was made. Two juveniles won the Monte Carlo dance, and Mr and Mrs Taylor the lucky spot dance. Mr R. Halidone was an efficient M.C., and the music was supplied by Te Maari’s Band, The competitions were won by Mrs Coley (dinner), Mrs Sutton (mystery envelope), and Mrs R. Rangi (lucky number). Miss L.Hutchison won the second prize in the dinner competition. Personal Items. Mrs Taurau, Dannevirke, is on a short visit to Pirinoa. Mr and Mrs Lovegrove, .who have been on holiday, returned home at the weekend. Mr J. Gates has returned to Martinborough. Miss Florence Tilson ’ has returned home after having visited friends in the South Island. Mr and Mrs D. Mclntosh, Dannevirke, were visitors to Pirinoa ,at the weekend. Mr John Sutton has received word that he has been accepted for the Navy. Mi- and Mrs P. Macdonald Junr., are staying with Mr and Mrs P. Macdonald, Merongo. Mrs Hall Senr. and Mrs Hall Junr., were visitors to Pirinoa for the weekend. Miss N. McDougall is staying with her sister, Mrs Didsbury, Wellington.
