PATRIOTIC APPEAL
THIS WEEK’S ATTRACTIONS. Reports from various committees were received at this morning’s meeting of the Patriotic Committee. The Women’s Branch of the Navy League reported that it would be holding a shop day tomorrow from 10 a.m. at Messrs Bullick-Blackmore Ltd>s. old premises. The branch stated that it would be very pleased to receive donations of anything saleable which could be regarded as a souvenir. The Women’s Patriotic Committee reported that it was getting a good response for its white elephant day, to be held on Friday in the same premises. The Solway Display Committee reported that arrangements were in hand for Saturday afternoon’s display at Solway. It was probable that two bands would be in attendance while the interhouse display, the Maori hakas and the horse and dog items would be of great interest to overseas visitors. The committee responsible for the gala night attraction to be held in Aplin’s paddock in South Road on Saturday reported that arrangements had been made for coloured lights to be in place by Friday. It also reported that the arrangements for a dance and supper were well forward. It was decided to charge 2s a head, with Is. parking fee for cars within the grounds.
