“JOHN BULL” CALLING

DISTRICT PATRIOTIC APPEAL. Today’s statement from the Patriotic Committee:—Once again a race meeting has been held which gave abundant proof that there is more free money in New Zealand than at any time in our history. Thousands of people were able to rest from their labours and visit the race course —there to make their investments. Our boys in the prison camps of Germany, Italy and Malaya will be glad to know that New Zealand is still able to enjoy its relaxations. Our boys in the Eighth Army, in the hospitals in Egypt, in the heat of the Pacific Isles, would enjoy nothing better than to swap places for a few hours. Thousands of people could go to the totalisator—on Friday twelve people called on John Bull.
