QUICK RECAPTURE

OF ESCAPED MAORI PRISONERS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 18. Two Maori prisoners who escaped this morning from the Auckland prison were recaptured at Otahuhu this evening. They are Hugh Simons, aged 31, and Sam Repia, aged 22. Simons is an habitual criminal, and both have bad records. Each has previously escaped from custody. Both were working on the top of the prison quarry with a drilling machine, a'nd they had to elude a sentry in order to get away. They were seen to leap the boundary of the Auckland Grammar School grounds at 10.30, and the alarm was raised shortly afterward. Later the prison officials found a discarded jacket and undershirt in the school grounds. The men were dressed in civilian clothes when recaptured. They offered no resistance.
