AGAINST PARTISANS IN HAUTE SAVOIE DIFFICULTIES WITH MOBILE GUARDS. TERRORISM & REBELLION. IN LYONS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, March 17. Conflicting reports are circulating with regard to the situation in the .Haute Savoie region. The Geneva correspondent of “The Times” states that no new measures have been taken. The Mobile Guards are blocking off the mountains, but so far they have not been ordered to take action against the partisans. The Morocco radio asserts that the inactivity is due to the attitude of the Mobile Guards, some ’of whom are being replaced by Italians and Germans. The radio says that more than 500 men of the 27th regiment are among the resisters. Fresh demonstrations have occurred in Lyons, Toulon and Nimes against the recruitment of workers, and strikes are breaking out in many factories. The “Tribune de Geneve” reports that an atmosphere of terror and rebellion exsts in Lyons. German troops blockade areas of buildings, which the Gastapo search from floor to floor. Labour conscripts are deported to Germany without an opportunity of consulting their families. ARREST REPORTED LEADER FRENCH FASCISTS ZURICH, March 17. The “Gazette de Lausanne” says that the Vichy police have arrested Colonel de la Rocque (the leader of the “Fiery Cross” Fascist organisation, which he founded some years before the war). The reason for his arrest is not given.
