BOWLING

MASTERTON CLUB. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” A challenge match for the Ewington Badges was played yesterday afternoon, on the Masterton Club’s green, between the holders, Maxwell, Dougty, Perry, and Nielsen (s), of the Masterton Club, and the challengers, Davies, Gibson, Reader and E. Brown ((s), of the Park Club. After an interesting and enjoyable game, the Masterton veterans retained the badges by a fair margin. Prior to the commencement of the game, Mr Nielsen apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr H. Thomas, the club’s president. Mr Nielsen extended a hearty welcome to the Park veterans, and Mr Brown, on behalf of the Park team, thanked the Masterton team for the cordial welcome. Both teams were the guests of Mr H. Thomas at afternoon tea, and his kindness was much appreciated. The details of the game are as follows: The Park led by 2 points on the sth head, but at the 9th head Masterton were in the lead by one point, the scores being Masterton 9, Park 8. The scores were even, being 10 all at the 12th head, and an adjournment was made for afternoon tea. The game changed considerably after this, Masterton putting on 11 points on the next 4 heads, giving them a lead of 11 points, with only 5 heads to play. Park scored 2 points on the next two heads and the final score was Masterton 24, Park 14.
