Miss B. Vallance, Cole Street, Masterton, is staying in Napier. Mrs Hornsby and Miss Telford, Raumati Beach, are spending a few days with Mrs R. C./Drummond, Lansdowne. Miss S. Tankersley and Mrs H. Speight, of Masterton, have left for Palmerston North, where they will attend the Dominion Convention of the W.C.T.U. The following casualty was announced by the Navy Office, Wellington, last night: —Kelvin G. Littlewood, A. 8., N.Z., drowned. Miss C. .1. Littlewood, New Brighton (sister). Mr H. F. O’Leary, K.C., of Wellingjton, and formerly of Masterton, has I been elected president, Mr A. H. Johnstone, K.C., vice-president, and Mr A. T. Young, honorary treasurer of the New Zealand Law Society. With the death of the Rev. Robert Raine, New Zealand Methodism has lost one of its most devoted ministers. He died in Wellington yesterday at the age of 77 years. Coming to New Zealand in his 22nd year, in 1892 he became a probationer in the Primitive Methodist Church, commencing his work in the Foxton circuit. In 1909 the Methodist Church appointed him president of the conference. After a successful ministry of forty years in various parts of New Zealand, he retired from active work in 1932. Waipawa was en fete yesterday when Mrs Jane Boyle celebrated her 100th birthday. Mrs Boyle, who was born in Ireland, resided in America when a child, but has been a resident in Waipawa for some 60 years. She possesses every faculty, and began her birthday by walking to church at 7 a.m. A public celebration was held at the Waipawa sports grounds yesterday afternoon, when a truly district representation was present. Congratulatory messages were read from the GovernorGeneral, the Prime Minister, and the American Consul. Hundreds of other messages were received.
