BALMORAL HOTEL RAID

CHARGE AGAINST GIRL. MAGISTRATE’S DECISION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Shirley Daphne Rule, a milliner, aged 17, who was found on the premises of the Balmoral Private Hotel during the recent raid, and was stated to have had her board paid by a marine, appeared before Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient lawful visible means of support. Willingness to take the girl back and care for her, as she had no one to look after her, was signified by her former guardian. The magistrate said that accused was only a young girl, and he felt it would be better if the entering of a conviction could be avoided. The case would be adjourned for six months, and nothing more would be heard of the matter if she remained with her guardian. She had been found in circumstances which were not creditable, and a condition of the adjournment of the charge would be that she must break her association with the marine who had been paying her board.
