TO BE RELEASED FROM ARMY
YOUTHS OF 18 AND 19 YEARS. GOVERNMENT DECISION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An announcement that arrangements had been made to release from fulltime service in the Army youths of 18 and 19 years of age who were anxious to return to civil life to resume their studies, apprenticeships, or their chosen vocations was made yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. “Youths now in the Army who have volunteered for the Navy and Air Force, and others who wish to remain in the Army, will not be affected, but it is proposed to release all others as expeditiously as circumstances will permit,” said Mr Fraser. He also stated that under existing conditions it was not proposed to call into camp for fulltime service any youths of 18 and 19 years of age. Any youths, however, in the 18 and 19-year group desirous of volunteering for service in the Navy or Royal New Zealand Air Force may do so. “In fact, in view of the requirements for these services, particularly of the Air Force,’ added Mr Fraser, “it is very desirable that those anxious to enter should submit applications without delay.”
