DEATH OF MINER

INJURED FATALLY IN FALL / OF COAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. March 16. After surviving for more than three hours under a fall of coal at Birchwood mine at Ohai today, John Dahren, a miner, collapsed and died immediately after being extricated. He was a married man age£ about 55, and had a family of four children. The fall occurred when Mr. Dahren was working at the face. He was completely buried by coal, but a rescue party was able to maintain conversation with him. Though the coal was removed as quickly as possible, it was 5.30 o’clock by the time he was brought out. He was obviously weak after his experience, and he collapsed and died almost as soon as he was freed.
