BOWLING
MASTERTON CLUB. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” On Wednesday afternoon last, the Masterton Club bowlers were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr John de Castro, one of the club’s popular and respected bowlers. The special occasion was brought about by the fact that “John” had'joined the veteran bowlers, having attained the age of 70 years. Mr E. W. Nielsen, on behalf of the club members, wished Mr de Castro many happy returns of that day, and referred in eulogistic terms to Mr de Castro’s qualities as a citizen and a bowler. Mr de Castro suitably replied, and thanked the bowlers for their kind sentiments as expressed through Mr Nielsen. In various ways, the Masterton Club has been fortunate in having many bowlers who take a special interest in their I noticed a comfortable and well finished seat for accommodating 6 bowlers at the greens. On enquiry I could not ascertain who the donor of the seat was, but I did gather some information that a popular and respected bowler, Mr George Hyde, was seen taking measurements from one of the old seats. “Gebrge” was silent, as to the name of the donor of the seat. CLUB GAMES. I was pleased to see such a large number of bowlers taking part in the tourney on the club’s green on Saturday afternoon last. The trophies were presented by Mr Leslie Dorset and the club’s president, Mr H. Thomas. The games proved most interesting and enjoyable. HOLDER OF'TROPHIES. The Masterton Club is now the holder of the Wairarapa Centre champion fours, the Veteran Badges, the Wall Cup, and the Mutrie Cup.
