MOVE BY SENATORS

IN THE UNITED STATES INITIATIVE URGED IN FOREIGN POLICY. DURING AND AFTER WAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 14. Coinciding with Mr Eden’s visit, a group of leading Democratic and Republican Senators will today make far-reaching proposals to President Roosevelt about foreign policy during and after the war. The Associated Press will urge on the President that the United States take the initiative in forming a permanent organisation with the Allies for closer military and political co-ordination, and also in the establishment of a post-war body for the settlement of international disputes. The proposals are expected to reach the Senate as a resolution on Tuesday. Senators suggested that the United States call a meeting of the United Nations' representatives for the purpose of forming an organisation with “specific and limited authority” to: — (1) Assist in co-ordinating and fully utilising the military and economic resources of all the member nations for the prosecution of the war against the Axis. (2) Establish temporary administrations for- Axis-controlled countries when occupied by the United Nations. (3) Administer relief and assistance in the economic rehabilitation of member nations, and also of nations freed from the Axis. (4) Establish procedure and machinery for the peaceful settlement of international disputes. (5) Provide for the assembly and maintenance of a United Nations military force with which immediately to suppress any future attempt at military aggression by any nation.
