AIR ATTACKS

ON JAPANESE IN BURMA AMERICANS DROP MANY TONS OF BOMBS. AT LEAST THREE ZEROS SHOT DOWN. LONDON, March 12. in Burma United States bombers dropped many tons of bombs on an airfield north of Rangoon. At least three Zeros were shot down. Other American bombers attacked a viaduct and bridge near Mandalay. R.A.F. Blenheims, escorted by Hurricanes, bombed and machine-gunned Japanese river transport and set -fire to oil installations. An India communique states: “Yesterday R.A.F. Blenheims, escorted by Hurricanes, attacked Japanese positions in the Dombaik area Bombing was carried out from a low level, and fighters followed up with a heavy machine-gun attack. “Elsewhere fighters shot up enemy river transport and land objectives. The targets included oil derricks at Yenangyat, which were set on fire, and a small steam launch, which was sunk. One of our aircraft is missing.”
