BOY SCOUTS ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) ' The weekly card tourney of the Boy Scout Committee was well attended and an enjoyable time spent. The prizes were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Edwards 1, Mrs Pauling 2. Men’s section: T. Collerton 1, Mrs A. Thompson (acting) 2. Dance at Carterton. A dance in aid of the Maori War Effort will be held in the State Theatre, Carterton, tomorrow evening. Music will be supplied by the combined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Poole. Personal Items. Mrs C. Bruce, of Tua- Tapere, Southland, is a visitor to Carterton and is the guest of Mrs H. Simmonds, Plimsol Street, Carterton. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Parkvale on Sunday next. Women at Prayer. Carterton women met in St. Andrew’s Church this afternoon to take part in the annual women’s worldwide day of prayer, which is an international movement. The service today began in New Zealand and will conclude in Greenland. Personal Items. The death occurred at Waimate recently of Mr Geo. Thompson, who was well known in the Carterton district, having been associated with dairy factory work before going south. Gunner I. McLennan and L.A.C. Staples were tendered a social gathering at the Carrington School last evening. There was a very large attendance and a most enjoyable time was spent. Music for the- dancing was supplied by Messrs C. E. Miller and A. C. Hayes, and the M.C. was Mr A. B. Card. An extra was played by Gunner McLennan. Mrs B. K. Hills rendered two much appreciated vocal items. She was accompanied on the piano by Mrs K. H. Reid. Mr W. Wilson made reference to the excellent personal qualities of the guests of honour and wished them both good luck and a safe return. On behalf of the settlers of the district he asked Gunner McLennan to accept a well-filled pocket wallet, and L.A.C. Staples a similar money belt. Mrs R. Corbett, on behalf of the Women’s Division of' the Farmers’ Union, presented parcels of woollen garments to each of the men. Supper was served by the ladies of the district. Social Gathering. The residents of Parkvale and district will on Monday evening tender a social gathering to Private T. Orr, of Ahiaruhe. Music for the dance will be provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra. Novelty dances will be on the programme. The prizes for the euchre tournament will consist of parcels of groceries. The proceeds will be donated to the Carterton District High School Recreation Fund. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. The double programme at the Regent Theatre tomorrow night will be headed by “Federal Bullets,” a stirring G-Men drama, starring Milburn Stone and Zeffie Tilbury, and “The Bugle Sounds,” a splendid comedy in which Wallace Beery has the chief role.
