BOWLING ; PRAGNELL CUP CONTEST. (“Times-Age” Special.) Last evening on the Carterton green H. Smith, of the Masterton Park Club, played the holder of the Pragnell Cup, Sorenson, an interesting game ending in favour of Sorenson by 18/16. Kelly Cup: In a match played on the Carterton green last evening the challengers, Edwards and Stimpson (s), of the Park Club, beat the holders, L. A. DeLacey and Foss (s), of the Carterton Club, by 23/18. Progressive pairs: Beaven and Tucker (s) beat Kilmister and Barber (s), 26/19; Daysh and Sorensen (s) beat Colson and Curtis (s), 21/17. LICENSING COMMITTEE QUARTERLY SITTING. Mr W. P. Lawry, S.M. (chairman) presided over the quarterly meeting of the Wairarapa Licensing Committee at the Carterton Courthouse yesterday. There were also present: Messrs F. W. Smith, W. C. M. Sorensen, F. W. Wood, J. Purvis and the Clerk, Mr Whittaker. Reports from hotels were received and considered very satisfactory. The question of fire escape repairs at the Greytown Hotel was considered. Mr D. L. Taverner assured the committee that the repairs would be attended to. The chairman remarked that Public Works Department employees who boarded at the hotel were prepared to do the work in their own time. It was decided to review the position later. The transfer of the license of Whakatane Hotel from Mr Reed to Mr Christensen was approved. CARTER HOMES BEQUEST ESTIMATED AT £2OO. Under the will of the late Mr John Bond, of Carterton, who died on February 12, 1943, the Public Trustee is appointed executor and trustee. The whole of the estate is left to the Management Committee of the Carter Homes, Carterton, to be applied for the benefit and upkeep of the institution. The amount available is estimated at £2OO. ' Red Cross Society. The annual meeting of the Carterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society will be held in the Dalefield Dairy Co’s, building on Wednesday, March 17, at 8 p.m. Day of Prayer. At the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton, tomorrow, between 2 and 3 p.m., a women’s world wide day of prayer will be held. Personal Items. The residents of Carrington will entertain Gunner McLennan and L.A.C. Richard Staples at a social gathering at the Carrington S,chool tonight, when both soldiers will be the recipients of presentations. Maori War Effort. On Saturday next at the State Theatre, Carterton, a dance will be held in aid of the Maori War Effort. The music will be provided by the combined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Poole. REGENT THEATRE “FEDERAL BULLETS.” Tonight there will be shown an exciting G-men drama, “Federal Bullets, starring Milburn Stone and Zeffie Tilbury, and the clever comedy, “The Bugle Sounds,” with Wallace Beery and Marjorie Main in the leading roles.
