New repatriation benefits were announced in the House of Representatives yesterday by the Minister for Repatriation (Mr Frost). They include the removal of the means test applying to war widows’ pensions and free medical and hospital treatment in respect of all disabilities occasioned by war. If a soldier marries within fifteen years of his discharge, his wife and children will be entitled to receive pensions in respect of any war incapacity or death from war service. Mr Frost said the minimum pension payable to a war widow would be £2 10s a week. The abolition of the means test meant that property, and income exceeding £1 a week did not affect this pension. _____
