FIGHTING IN BURMA
JAPANESE INFILTRATION ATTEMPT RIDGE POSITION ATTACKED BY R.A.F. GOOD RESULTS OBTAINED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.32 a.m.) RUGBY, March 9. An India war communique states: “During the past few days, in an effort to relieve pressure on their fronts, some small Japanese units have infiltrated westward from the Kaladan River and have taken up positions along a forest ridge between Kanzauk and Auktaungbyin. Kanzauk is about 20 miles north-east of Rathedaung. On Monday R.A.F. bombers and fighters made several attacks on this ridge with good results. A majority of the bombs were seen to burst on the targets. In a low-level machinegun attack, some enemy gun positions were silenced and casualties were inflicted. All our aircraft are safe.”
