NINETEEN AXIS PLANES
Destroyed Without Loss by Americans IN BATTLE OVER SICILIAN STRAITS American Flying Fortresses and Lightnings gave Axis air forces another nasty knock in an air battle over the Sicilian Straits. The United States aircraft shot down 17 out of 50 Axis planes. In addition, two enemy fighters collided. In another air battle, two German fighters were shot down for the loss of two Allied planes.
