"WAGER,” Carterton: There is no record of Gene Tunney 'and George Carpentier ever having met in the boxing ring. In 1921 Jack Dempsey knocked out Carpentier in 4 rounds in a world’s heavyweight championship contest at Jersey City. In 1922 Battling Siki knocked out Carpentier in a match for the world’s lightheavyweight championship, . after which Tunney became champion in this class.—Ed. “Wairarapa TimesAge.”
