NAVY LEAGUE
LADIES' AUXILIARY. PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES. A well attended meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the local Navy League was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon, Mrs S. R. Gawith presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames S. Fletcher, W. R. Birch, T. Jordan, P. H. Nathan, G. C. Williams. E. C. White, H. McKenzie Douglas and Misses B. Vallance and McLaren. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Tuesday, April 13, at 2.30 p.m. The wool committee reported that four local men had been supplied with comforts during the month and that 50 garments had been packed ready for transport to Wellington. It was also reported that 12 garments had been sent to the Seamen’s Mission since the last meeting. It was decided that the presentation of the Navy League flag to the Mauriceville West School take place at an early date if arrangements could be made. A request was received from Wellington for knitters to make gunner gloves for seamen. School members of the Solway College, St. Bride's Convent and Te Whiti school had undertaken to make a number of pairs and it was thought that other school members would also assist. A copy of a letter from the National Patriotic Fund Board was forwarded by the Wellington Navy League, asking for the cooperation of Navy League brandies in raising money for the 1943 Patriotic Fund Appeal. It was decided to write to the chairman of the district Provincial Patriotic Council, suggesting that the Navy League should hold a shop day in aid of the campaign and asking for permission to do so.
