CARTERTON
WEDDING KAY—SURTEES. (“Times-Age” Special.) A wedding of local interest took place at the Methodist Church, Carterton, recently, when Ruth, youngest daughter of Mr Edward and the late Mrs Surtees, Carterton, was married to Arthur Samuel, third son of Mr and Mrs S. V. Kay, of Carterton. TJhe ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. A. Daglish, and Mrs W. Vaughan presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was dressed in a blue frock, with hat and shoes to tone, and her bouquet was of cream lilies, with touches of blue and lemon. The bridesmaid, Miss Betty Warrington, of Pahautea, wore a grey frock, with touches of blue, a blue hat and grey shoes. She carried a bouquet of pink gladioli and pale pink antirrhinum. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr R. Warrington, of Waihakeke. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Sunday School hall where the bride and bridegroom entertained their friends and relatives, the usual toasts being honoured. Subsequently Mr and Mrs A. S. Kay left on their honeymoon, which was spent in the north. The bride travelled in a floral frock, navy blue coat and hat to match, with shoes and gloves to tone. Good Crop of Barley. Mr L. S. Gallon, South Carterton, reports having threshed a crop of barley that averaged 40 bushels to the acre. Earthquake Damage. Good progress is being made by the contractors in restoring Krahagen’s building, which was damaged in the earthquake last year. The front of Messrs Hannah’s, Ltd., bootshop will also soon be completed. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society’s building will be the next building to receive attention, and repairs should be completed before the winter. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Ponatahi on Sunday. Church Parade. Carterton Boy Scouts and Cubs will hold a church parade on Sunday evening at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The parade will leave the Scout Den, where the Scouts and Cubs will meet at 6.30 o’clock. Euchre Tournament and Dance. Residents of Parkvale and district are asked by advertisement to keep Monday, March 15, free, the occasion being a euchre tournament and dance in aid of the recreation funds of the Carterton District High School. Personal Items. Mr Alfred Johansen and his daughter,' Mrs G. Foster, of Raetihi, are the guests of Captain and Mrs Waite, Pembroke Street, Carterton. R£GENT~THEATRE “TANKS A MILLION.” “Tanks a Million,” a brilliant comedy, will be finally shown tonight. The chief roles are in the hands of William Tracy, James Gleason and Noah Beery Junr. The supporting feature is a particularly good comedy, “Miss Polly,” with Zasu Pitts and Slim Summerville in the leading roles.
