BITTER FIGHTING
SEVERAL AREAS IN CHINA JAPANESE DRIVES. HEAVY CASUALTIES REPORTED ON BOTH SIDES. (Ey Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 28. The American Associated Press Chungking correspondent quotes a Chinese 'communique reporting that Japanese troops in the vicinity of Mitgkwan, Yunnan, continued to advance northward in the direction of Tachupa against bitter opposition. A Japanese unit, over a thousand strong, advanced on February 24 eastward from Kunlurig and attacked Mengting. The Japanese recaptured 'on February 22 Suiki, in Southern Kwangtung, also two other towns. The Japanese capl- - Fengkow, in Central Hupeh, on February 25, after bitter hand-to-hand fighting, in which there .were heavy casualties on both sides. Japanese forces, ten thousand strong, advanced from Chiangyu and other bases against the Chinese in Southern Shantung i positions. There were heavy casualties on both sides in several days’ fighting.
