INTERHOUSE TEAMS

DISPLAY AT WANGANUI A CHAPTER OF ACCIDENTS. EXPERIENCED BY LOCAL GIRLS. ■ ■— Three teams representing the Wairarapa Interhouse Association journeyed to Wanganui on Saturday to take part in an interhouse drill and marching competition. A total of 31 teams were on parade, and there was an attendance estimated at 8000. . The grounds were brilliantly flood-lit. Of the local teams, the Maori team finished ninth, Hansell’s eleventh, and Rolph’s team did not complete the course. All teams were hospitably entertained, and are stated to have thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Wanganui. For Rolph’s team the trip was a chapter of accidents. Originally one car was to have conveyed the team and supporters, numbering twelve people. Before leaving, however, it was discovered that two gallons of water had been poured into the petrol by mistake. After that had been dealt with the self-starter gave trouble and had be repaired. After setting out on trip one of the tires was The party eventually left Masterton afi 5.30 p.m. in two small cars, and arrived? at Wanganui in less than three hours, to be the last team on parade. Allen, manager of the team, paid a tribute this morning to the sportsmanship of the other teams. The Maori team is reported to have received a particularly good hearing. The team was afterwards hospitably entertained by the Wanganui Maoris, and but for the inclement weather would have been taken for a trip up the Wanganui River.
