METHODISTS AND DANCING

DISCUSSION AT CONFERENCE. A NEW SITUATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This. Day. It has been a long-established practice with Methodists that their church property cannot be used for dances. The subject of dancing generally was discussed by the Methodist Conference in Christchurch, when a proposal was submitted that dancing in any church be left to the discretion of the leaders. After a long debate the conference referred the remit to the Church Welfare Committee for consideration. An entirely new situation had arisen with the men coming back from overseas, said the Rev G. Goodman. What was more natural than to welcome them home at a dance? A suggestion, that liquor might. be introduced met with a chorus of “certainly not.”
