PETROL RATION
HALF COUPON FOR MARCH. DIFFICULT SHIPPING POSITION (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, announced yesterday that coupon No. 24 would be available at half its face value during next month for supplies of petrol to private motorists. He said it had been decided to continue the present scale of petrol ration for March after the War Cabinet had reviewed the position and the prospective stock situation. “If applicants for special licences do not get what they consider to be sufficient petrol for their needs, that is only because the petrol position, which is almost wholly related to the difficult shipping position, does not permit the granting of licences or the use of petrol generally on the scale the Government and Wai- Cabinet would like to see available,” said the Minister. “Petrol is a commodity which affects most sections of the community, and I can conceive no other method of administering the oil fuel regulations which would afford as much satisfaction as the present one through local advisory committees.”
