Mrs D. H. Rutherford, Makuri, is staying at Paraparaumu Beach. Mr and Mrs L. B. Maunsell, Masterton, are visiting Christchurch. Mrs C. M. Roberts, of Sanson, is visiting friends in the Wairarapa. Miss K. Brown, Pownall Street, Masterton, is spending the weekend in Wellington. Miss Gladys Ward, of Te Puke, _ is staying with her sister, Mrs L. Timmins, Marima. Mr and Mrs T. Jordan have received cable advice that their daughter, Mrs John Lampen, has arrived in England. A cablegram from London reports the death of the cricketer, Fred Tate, father of Maurice Tate, the well known fast bowler. Miss M. Eising, who had been sole teacher at the Mangahao school, has left to enter the Teachers’ Training College at Wellington. Mr C. W. Earl was re-elected president of the New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors’ Association at the annual conference held in Wellington lilts week. Mr H. P. F. Blundell was reelected treasurer. The engagement is announced between Dawn Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs George Wagg, Masterton, and Bernard Joseph Edwards, R N.Z.A.F., youngest son of Mrs M. J. and the late Mr J. Edwards, Miramar.. The funeral of the late Mr J. F. Ward took place at Masterton this morning, there being a representative attendance. The service at Hyde’s Chapel and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev I. Edwards. The nailbearers were Messrs W. Darvill, G. Hyde, M. Fly and C. N. Cole. A number of beautiful wreaths were received.
