EARTHQUAKE IN WELLINGTON PEOPLE AWAKENED FROM SLEEP CHIMNEYS FALL IN HUTT VALLEY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A sharp earthquake jolt, which registered 6 on the Rossi Forel scale, awakened people at 1.34 a.m. today. Some chimneys, which had probably been damaged earlier, fell in the Hutt Valley. The centre is believed to be thirty miles from Wellington but the direction has not been determined. No reports of damage anywhere outside of Wellington has been received.
