DAY BOMBING
BEGINNING OF SERIOUS PHASE CONSIDERED TO BE IMMINENT. STRAIN ON THE LUFTWAFFE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February' 24. The beginning of a serious phase for Germany in the war in the air may be imminent, as the day bombing, if it is developed regularly, may hasten the end of the war, according to informed air quarters. The German fighters have already been extended, and if the day bombing is increased and the area of attack is extended the Luftwaffe may be stretched to a stage where the bombers will be able, to get through without casualties. Already the heavily-armed American bombers have shown their ability to force their way through heavily-de-fended areas in daylight, and the extent to which the Royal Air Force has developed daylight attacks is shown by the fact that more than 2000 sorties .were flown during 1942.
