OPTIMISM RISING
HOPES OF GANDHI SURVIVING FAST SIX MORE DAYS TO GO. NO NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN CONDITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) BOMBAY, February 25. Optimism is rising in medical circles that Gandhi will survive the remaining six days of his fast, which ends at 8 a.m. Indian standard time, on March 3. He is in good spirits. He had a sponge bath this morning. Although fully conscious, he rarely speaks except when visitors call in the evening. A medical bulletin signed by six doctors says Gandhi has made no further progress, and there is no appreciable change in his condition. INDIAN SITUATION NO DEBATE AT PRESENT. UNWISE UNDER EXISTING CIRCUMSTANCES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, February 25. Replying to Mr A. Greenwood (Lab., Wakefield) in the House of Commons, Mr Anthony Eden said that in the Government’s view a debate on the general Indian situation would be unwise under existing circumstances. The debate would'serve no useful purpose but rather the reverse but the Government would be prepared to review the situation as it developed.
