LAND RAID
SUCCESSFUL OPERATION IN BURMA MUCH DESTRUCTION CARRIED OUT. AIRCRAFT ATTACK OTHER OBJECTIVES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY, February 25. An India communique states: On the night of February 22 one of our fighting patrols carried out a successful attack on the enemy-occupied village of Myebon, about sixty miles south-east of Akyab. Our troops landed from vessels of the Indian Navy and remained in possession of_ the place for about five hours. All buildings which might be useful to the enemy were burned, the jetty blown up and a hundred foot river steamer destroyed. Opposition was very slight and was quickly overcome. We suffered no casualties.” The communique adds: “Our bombers made successful attacks on rhe Thazi, a railway junction in Central Burma, and on Akyab. Bombers and fighters attacked villages and river transport. Japanese bombers attempted to attack an aerodrome in northeast Assam but fighters successfully intercepted them.”
