JOURNEY ABROAD. TO VISIT MIDDLE EAST AND ENGLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Information that the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, had left New Zealand on a visit to the New Zealand Division in ,the Middle East was given to the House of' Representatives yesterday by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. He said that Mr Jones was travelling by air and was visiting the United States .of America en route. On his return journey from the Middle East, it was hoped that he would be able to pay a brief visit to London to enable him to have discussions with the United Kingdom authorities and to inspect New Zealand personnel in the United Kingdom. Later Mr Jones intended to visit New Zealand airmen in Canada before returning to the Dominion. In reply to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, the Prime Minister said that he was acting Minister of Defence, and that Mr Osborne (Onehunga), recently appointed Under-Se-cretary, would be attending to some of the detail of the work. The Minister in Charge of War Expenditure, Mr Hamilton, would also share the duties in Mr Jones’s absence.
