GOERING’S WAY

HOW THE RED AIR FORCE IS “DEFEATED.” How the facts of air warfare on the Eastern front are distorted or inverted in German official announcements, is shown in the following statement by Lance-Corporal Hans Folgner, a German soldier who surrendered to the Red Army, published in “Soviet War News” in October last:— “Early in October Senior-Lieutenant Otto and I drove in a motor’ car along the road from Sychevka to Vyazma. “While we were on our way an aerodrome to the right of the high road was raided by 37 Russian planes. We jumped out of the car and lay down. “The Russian airmen seemed to feel quite at home in spite of the A.A. fire. They flew very low. I saw only one Russian bomber hit. The rest dropped their loads and flew off. One of the officers later told Otto: ‘The Russians’ visit cost us dear. They destroyed about 50 planes.’ “Next morning, when we were in Vyazma, the radio announced: ‘Thirtyseven Soviet planes attempted to raid one of our aerodromes on the central front. Twenty-four of the Soviet planes were destroyed by A.A. fire’.”
