The King of the Hellenes broadcasting a message to his country, in the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Greek News Bulletin, on the second anniversary of the Italian invasion of Greece. King George II. of Greece succeeded to the throne in September, 1922. Disputes with Italy, culminating in the bombardment of Corfu, marked his brief reign, and caused a republic to be proclaimed. The King was recalled by a national plebiscite in November, 1935. In September, 1941, he came again to Britain, with members of his Government, as a result of the German invasion of Greece.
