LOCALLY TRAINED HORSES. FORM AT WOODVILLE. Locally trained horses which made the trip to Woodville but finished out of the money were Gamble, Cheerful Lady, Full Light and Gay Fox. Cheerful Lady, a black mare by DefoeCheerful, is now raced by Mr A. V. Faulknor, of Lansdowne. If looks count it should not take long for the mare to take the first portion of a good stake. Perhaps the Wairarapa meeting at Tauherehikau may suit. Full Light, owned by Mr J. Mulvaney, of Kaituna, has proved disappointing. The Foxlight mare has a bad habit of running wide out. Gay Fox made a moderate showing in the Highweight Handicap. Mr I. D. Cameron’s brown gelding was made favourite for the event, but on what grounds it is hard to say. Perhaps having an experienced jockey like Ashley Jenkins in the saddle had something to do with it. Gamble faded out in the concluding stages of the Highweight Handicap, but may make amends in the future over a shorter distance. Well Bred. Wedding Dress, a well bred chestnut mare owned by Mr B. McKnight, of Tauherenikau, was unlucky to be left at the barrier at the start of the County Handicap at Woodville on Saturday. The four-year-old Friday Night—Day Dress is a sister on tne sire’s side to Cheap Lodging, both being related to Phar Lap. Wedding Dress will bear watching in the future. Too Soon Yet. Kentuckey, Messrs T. Fisher's and T R. George’s brown horse by Vermeer—Lady Lois was never in the picture in the Ruahine Handicap at Woodville on Saturday. From the point of view of form and track work there was no justification for Kentucky going out a warm favourite. His connections thought along with tiack watchers at Opaki that it was too soon to expect winning form. It will take a race or two yet. . Olein Again. Olein put up a sterling performance to take the second division of the President’s Hack Handicap at Woodville on Saturday. She has had two wins on end. Trained at Opaki by T. R. George, the chestnut mare’s win for Mr J. Donald, of the Lower Valley, was a most popular one. There should be more to come. Interesting Runner. Wee Bun, a nice looking little bay filly by Croupier —Baby Bun, bred and trained by T. R. George for Mrs H. Murdock, was an interesting runner in the Juvenile event at Woodville on Saturday. Once again the public did a puzzling thing in making Wee Bun a firm favourite. The filly was racing for the first time and was against seasoned youngsters in Star Peer, Virtuoso, Carnforth, Haughty Queen and Financial. Greenness cost Wee Bun and others any chance they had when they dwelled at the barrier rise. Vitement Scores. Vitement, a brown horse which has been referred to frequently in the “Times-Age” in the past, scored again on Saturday to take the Marton Hur-1 dies at the Waikato meeting. From I the good prices Vitement has returned he has been a payable proposition to punters.
