BREMEN BOMBED
ALL PLANES RETURN SAFELV MANY FIRES STARTED. HEAVY ATTACKS BY R.A.F. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, February 22. The Air Ministry states: Last night bombers heavily attacked Bremen. All our aircraft are safe. Bremen has been bombed 102 times. The targets included shipbuilding and U-boat yards, the Focke-Wulf Kondor aircraft factory, the Weser Flug Gebau dive-bomber works, oil refineries and jute spinning and grain milling works. R.A.F. Sterlings, Halifaxes and Lancasters dropped more than 100 40001 b. bombs. The bombers arrived over the target shortly before nine o’clock last night. In a matter of 20 minutes fires were blazing all over the port. The enemy’s defences failed to destroy a single bomber, all of which returned safely to their base. The flak was intense, and night.fighters were on patrol. In one encounter a Lancaster beat off and damaged a Junkers 88.
