GIRLS’ HOSTEL
URGENTLY NEEDED AT COLLEGE. ACCORDING TO ACTINGPRINCIPAL. “My experiences during the past few weeks have convinced me of the urgent need of a girls’ hostel. Admittedly the present time may be inopportune, but I feel that this board, in the interests of the Wairarapa district, ought not to miss any chances when the time is opportune,” stated the Acting-Principal of Wairarapa College. Mr F. J. Gair at last night’s meeting of the College Board of Governors. It was . agreed that the proposal should be kept in mind. Mr Gair cited several instances in which the school had lost prospective girl pupils through the lack of boarding accommodation. In a report to the board Mr Gair said that the boarders at College House had jumped to 50, against 38 in 1942. The increase was a mixed blessing. It produced problems regarding beds, bedding, cutlery, crockery, accommodation and domestic help. Tribute to the splendid work put in by the Matron, Mrs Gair, was paid by several members. \
