U-BOATS FAIL

UNSUCCESSFUL ENEMY ATTACK ON CONVOY ONE SUBMARINE DESTROYED. ANOTHER BADLY DAMAGED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, February 19. An Admiralty communique states that a U-boat was destroyed and another damaged during an unsuccessful enemy attack on one of our convoys in the North Sea early yesterday morning. The enemy U-boats were engaged by the destroyers Garth and Montrose at very close range and in poor visibility. Two U-boats were badly hit and prisoners were taken from one which was left heavily on fire. Later the U-boat blew up. Neither casualty nor damage was sustained by either the ships in the convoy or the escorts.
