CANADA’S NATIVES
CONTRIBUTION TO WAR. IN MEN AND MONEY. OTTAWA. Canada’s native sons, commonly known as Indians, are contributing in many ways toward the war effort of the Dominion. To date 1,682 have enlisted in the armed forces. According to reports from the Indian Affairs Branch of the Department of Mines and Resources, Indians everywhere have shown a patriotic spirit and throughout Canada have manifested their, loyalty in many ways. Generally they have shown a keen desire to assist in the war effort to the extent of their ability. Indian women also have given evidence of patriotism in a manner that reflects greatly to their credit, and have taken an active part in local Red Cross activities. Voluntary contributions both in men and in money have been made .across Canada, all the way from Prince Edward Island to the Alaskan Boundary. Where money was not available, contributions in furs have frequently been made to the Red Cross and war services. The total amount of donations for war purposes received at Ottawa from Indian bands and individual Indians is 16,386.17 dollars, though this amount will probably be heavily increased when the total figures of the new Victory Loan have been compiled.
