PERSONAL
Mr R. G. Taiboys, Wanganui, has been elected president of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. The appointment of Mr A. G. Osborne, M.P. for Onehunga, as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Prime Minister, was gazetted last night. Lieut.-Colonel and Mrs G. G. Hancox, formerly of Masterton, announce the engagement of their second daughter, Elsie Gladys, to Sergeant Eric Keith Charman 2nd N.Z.E.F., son of Mr and Mrs A. R. Charman, Lyall Bay, Wellington. Mr R. E. Williams, a former resident of Masterton, is paying a brief visit to Masterton. Mr Williams was formerly on the staff of the Masterton Post Office, and, subsequently, was postmaster at Pongaroa, Thames and other parts of New Zealand prior to his recent retirement on superannuation. Mr Williams, when residing in Masterton, took a keen interest in sport, particularly cricket. He was the first junior player to record a century in the Wairarapa junior championship competition, this being over thirty years ago. Incidentally it may be mentioned that the first century in Wairarapa senior cricket was scored by Mr Charlie Perry, of Masterton, over 40 years ago.
