FUTURE OF THE EMPIRE

MR NASH ON POST-WAR COLLABORATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, February 15. The New Zealand Minister to Washington, Mr Nash, in an address under the title of “The British Commonwealth Faces the Future,” said that the post-war world could not be made secure unless America was prepared to play her part fully. The trend of the British Commonwealth of Nations’ future policy was fivefold:— First, a stand four-square for the implementation of the Atlantic Charter and the four freedoms. Secondly, a desire to see the United Nations’ organisation developed in the post-war world. Thirdly, it was not believed that such organisation would be incompatible with''the British Commonwealth. Fourthly, it was believed that security would be the immediate prime point with such organisation. Fifthly, it was believed that Britain and Russia should make immediate post-war contribution by participation in collective security. Mr Nash said that the United Nations’ Legislatures should enact the Atlantic Charter and the four freedoms as the corner-stones of their foreign policies.
