TAKEN IN SWIFT SOVIET THRUST INTO THE DON BASIN. ADVANCE OF THIRTY MILES IN ONE NIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, February 16. Speeding westward in the industrial Donetz Basin, the Red Army yesterday advanced 30 miles, and a Soviet communique says that last night 20 more towns were occupied. An earlier communique reported the capture of a railway station 40 miles north-west of Stalino and villages 45 miles north-west of Taganrog on the railway to Stalino Late last night the Berlin radio an- ' nounced that the Russians, after a battle which lasted for several hours and was waged with grim ferocity, breached the German lines at Kharkov, and German tanks were immediately hurled into a counter-attack. The commentator did not state whether the Germans closed the gap. The radio added . that the Russians penetrated the front south-east of Leningrad, but said the penetration was immediately sealed off
