WOODVILLE MEETING V ° GOOD NOMINATIONS RECEIVED. NIGHTRAY'S EGMONT CUP. a If the greater proportion of the large fields S which have been nominated for the Woods ville meeting on Saturday face the starter, t the club should be assured of a highly 1 successful meeting. Horses of good quality 3 have been nominated and if they stay m - there should be plenty of interesting racing. The course has a long straight which affords patrons a good view of the rac- • ing and the course is wide enough to handle S large fields. . . The Woodville Club is fortunate in having a competent band of officials, and given S a fine day the club should come out on tne ■- right side. ’ A Real Good One. ’ Nightray ran a splendid race to win the ’ Egmont Cup by a head from Mahaina on S Saturday. Nightray, a five-year-old Nightly— Lady Eka bay mare, won the Highweight event at the last meeting at Trentham with over ten stone on her back. Coming out fresh on Saturday with 7.2 up and piloted bv J. Garth, Nightray showed that she was well up to open class. Garth made a well
timed run to catch Mahaina, on the post alter Imperium who had set the pace had gone back. Nightray's win was anothei instance of a good hack coming out and beating a moderate lot in open class. I will be remembered that High Class, a Bulandshar gelding came out from hack class Jto take the Marton Cup at the New Yeai -1 meeting. Nightray was in the public eye : before the Trentham success when she was . given fourth place at the Maori lace club • meeting at Otaki. Frustration's Win. Frustration's win in the Nolan Hac U5 I l m at the Egmont meeting on Saturday vv as not unexpected by her connections. The Baffles —Royal Secret brown mare .ran a splendid race'at the Pahiatua meeting recently and the extra distance (incidentally it was the first time she had been tried at a middle distance), suited her. Frustration is a tvpe that should win more races. Daljarrock Again. Daljarrock added to his consistent record this season to notch another win on Saturday. Although Duality did not get a „ood run in the race, which was over seven iuiIcngs. Daljarrock was able to hold off a de-' termined challenge. Daljarrock. a fine big chestnut horse by Theio from Gay Lass requires a strong boy to handle him. Keite-He Was Due. Keite-He, winner of the Juvenile Handicap at the Egmont meeting on Saturday was cherry ripe. The youngster, a DefoeLovecourt chestnut gelding was unlucky not to win at the Pahiatua meeting recently. War Effort Should Do Well. War Effort ran two good races at the Egmont meeting to register a second and a first With a spot of luck War Effort would have pulled off a double. Raffled for the patriotic funds, the Sigfreid colt is a young- i ster that should do well. Woodville Acceptances. | Acceptances for the Woodville meeting, to i be held at Woodville next Saturday, close I with the secretary (Mr W. A. Lyoni at 8 . o'clock tonight. i
