DOUBLE MURDER CHARGE

ACCUSED HELD TO BE INSANE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NAPIER, February 15. At the Supreme Court today, David John Campbell was charged with having murdered his mother, Mavis Esther Campbell, and grandmother, Maud Campbell. Benjamin David Hart, medical superintendent at the Porirua mental hospital, stated that accused suffered from acute mental disorder. Accused was discharged from the hospital in July, 1942, and after the tragedy he was returned. His disease was well established, and accused was quite unable to understand his position. Dr. Tohill said that there was no question of malingering. The jury, without retiring, returned a verdict that accused was not sufficiently sane to plead. The Judge ordered that the prisoner be kept at Porirua mental hospital until the pleasure of the Minister of Justice was known.
