CARRIED OUT BY BRITISH GENERAL GIRAUD CONVEYED TO AFRICA. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 14. The British submarine which landed a British-American secret mission in North Africa before the invasion, brought officers off after they had made arrangements for the Allied landing with the French, and brought General Giraud from, the French coast so that he could be flown to General Eisenhower’s headquarters, has returned to its home base. The submarine commander, Lieutenant N. L. A .Jewell, R.N., who, by his share in these missions contributed much to the success of the North African campaign, is 29, and was on his first operation command when he was entrusted with these highly important special missions.
