BOWLING CARTERTON CLUB. (‘Times-Age” Special.) Beautiful weather prevailed for Saturday’s games on the Carterton bowling green, which was in good order after the heavy rain of Friday. afternoon. The semi-final game in the club fours was played, Harp's rink beating Riggs’ team. The final will be played between Sorensen and Harp. The following are results of games played: — Rink championship: Kilmister, King. Curtis, Harp (s) beat Booth, Colson, Newbould, Riggs (s), 27/10. Friendly games: Matson, Steven, Daysh, Barr (s) beat Foss, Clark, W. Hart, Geo. Hart (s), 23/19; Spooner, Hawker, Simmonds, Sorensen s) beat Adams, Beaven, Bain, Martin (s). 31/13; L. De Lacey, C. Do Lacey, Hughan (s) beat E. H. Smith, Harris, Tucker (s), 23/13; Pankhurst, McCarty. Whyte (s) beat Hall, E. Smith, Stent (s), 23/15.

Ladies’ championship singles: Mrs Colson beat Mrs Booth; Miss Armstrong beat Mrs Adams. Ladies’ championship pairs, A grade: Mesdames Colson and Thompson beat Miss Armstrong and Mrs Booth; Mrs Martin and Miss Lamb beat Mesdames Swan and Robinson. Final: Mesdames Colson and Thompson beat Mrs Martin and Miss Lamb. B grade: Miss Armstrong and Mrs Booth beat Mesdames Swan and Robinson, SCOUT RELAY RACE WON BY FEATHERSTON TEAM. On Saturday last an interesting relay race was held between teams of ten from the Scout troops of South Wairarapa. The course was from the Greytown Scout Den to the Carterton Scout Deh, a distance of six miles. Teams were entered by Featherston, Greytown, Carterton, Clareville, and the Carterton Air Scouts. Each team was divided up to run an equal distance. Mr Horton, Mayor of Greytown, gave the first runners a verbal message which was ultimately delivered to Mr D. L. Taverner, Mayor of Carterton. The Featherston team were the winners of the race. The trophy, a handsomely carved totem pole, was donated by Scoutmaster Fryer. The carving was executed by Air Scout S.M., W. Haxton. Mr D. L. Taverner presented the trophy and addressed the Scouts and their parents at the Carterton Scout Den. Mr R. N. Barton, County Commissioner, thanked the Mayor and all who had in any way contributed to the success of the event. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr John Bond took place at the Clareville Cemetery on Saturday. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev W. F. Stent. The pall-bearers were Bros W. L. Knutson, H. T. Bond, C. J. De Lacey and E. McKenzie. Advice was received by Mrs E. M. Gayfer during the weekend that her son, Basil, who is with the Middle East forces, was fit and well. Mrs R. P. Wakelin is spending a holiday in Palmerston North. Constable J. F. Williams, who had spent a holiday at Pukerua Bay, has returned to duty again. Mr and Mrs A. H. Knowles Entertained The Dalefield Town Hall was filled on Saturday evening when the residents of the district entertained at a social gathering Mr and Mrs A. H. Knowles in honour of their recent marriage. The music was supplied by Mrs Rogers. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Marshall and Mr N. Groube, and a lucky spot waltz went to Mr and Mrs Vic. Sayer. Miss Valerie McPhee, on behalf of the children attending the Dalefield school, asked Mr and Mrs Knowles to accept a fire screen as a small token of the esteem in which both were held by the children. Mr Knowles suitably thanked the children for the gift. Supper was served and dancing continued until midnight. REGENT THEATRE “BABES ON BROADWAY.” The outstanding comedy, “Babes on Broadway,” featuring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, will be shown at the Regent Theatre tonight.
