MOTOR FATALITY
AIRMAN KILLED. TRAGEDY NEAR DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, February 14. A fatal motor accident, involving the death of an airman, occurred in the vicinity of Logan Point Quarry on the main Dunedin-Port Chalmers highway early this morning. The victim was: Leading Aircraftman Alured Harry Bowie, single, aged 19, a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, attached to a South Island station. His •home is at 191 Main South Road, Caversham, Dunedin. 1 The fatality occurred at 2 a.m., when a rental car, driven by Garth Butler, 73 Riselaw Street, Dunedin, was returning from Port Chalmers. It is understood the car swerved to avoid a power pole, and, while being brought back to the road, overturned. Mr Dowle, who was a passenger in the rear seat, received serious injuries and was admitted to the Public Hospital. He died at 5.35 a.m. Other passengers were James William Mitchell and Kenneth Parish. Mr Mitchell was not injured. Messrs Paris and Butler received slight cuts and abrasions. The inquest was opened today and adjourned.
