INTERHOUSE AFFAIRS
LAST NIGHT’S SUCCESSFUL DANCE SWIMMING CARNIVAL NEXT THURSDAY NIGHT. INTERESTING PROGRAMME ARRANGED. A large crowd took advantage of the cool evening for dancing last night and attended a most successful dance held by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association in the Masonic Hall. The music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra and extras were played by Misses Mollie Iveson and Gundersen. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss Kilgour and Mr P. Bonnell. Messrs L. Askew and J. Bruce capably carried out the duties of M.C. Supper was served by the interhouse girls. The next dance, which will be held on February 18, will be in aid of the funds for the Interhouse teams which will be visiting Wanganui. A feature of the dance will be a special modern waltzing competition. SWIMMING CARNIVAL. The Interhouse Association will hold a swimming carnival, under the auspices of the Mastertoh Swimming Club, in the Dixon Street Baths, Masterton, on Thursday night,. February 18. The competitions will be open to any person employed in business houses and there will be two special races for members of the United Services.
The programme provides for men and ladies’ 25 yards and 50 yards handicap events, 100 yards men’s and 100 yards ladies’ interhouse relays; formation swimming by interhouse girls; ladies’ most comic dive; men’s and ladies’ diving; 50 yards dual relay handicap, two men and two ladies; 25 yards ladies’ breaststroke handicap; life saving race, one man and one lady; for men of the United Services only, 50 yards championship and 100 yards relay race for teams of four. An admission' charge of Is will be made and the association anticipates the support of the public. It is stated that members of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association who have joined the women’s auxiliaries of the various branches of the armed forces are finding that their interhouse drill and marching experience stands them in good stead. In one instance, it is stated, an inter-, house girl was selected for an instructor the first time she was on parade. An official of the Interhouse Association states that after training in drill and marching there is a noticeable improvement in the carriage and general appearance of the average girl.
