WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT PARKVALE. (•■Times-Age” Special.) Mrs D. N. Adams presided over a good attendance of members at a meeting held recently of the Parkvale Women’s Institute. Mrs N. McKinnon was accorded a vote of thanks for her interesting demonstration of mosiac work. v Competitions resulted as follows:—Best bloom, senior members: Mrs E. Rose, 1: Mrs L. Rayner, 2; Mrs W. A well known identity, Mr John Bond, an inmate of the Carter Home, who was the victim of a serious accident on Wednesday at the Home, died from his injuries yesterday afternoon at the Masterton Hospital. Born at Devonshire, England, on December 28, 1868. he came out to New Zealand with his parents and other members of the family when a young man. He resided at Belvedere and later was employed in the grocery trade for Messrs W. P. Allen, W. Moriarty and James Lawrence. At one time he owned a grocery business of his own in Belvedere Street, right opposite the old White Hart Hotel, which was burned down in a fire. Mr Bond’s shop was, also destroyed in the fire. For several years he had been an inmate of' the Carter Home. He is survived by three brothers. Messi's William, Albert and Harry Bond, of Carterton. Waiohine River Flood. ! During Thursday night the Waiohine River rose so high that there was 18 inches of flood water across the main highway at the Waiohine Bridge. The- stop bank toward Greytown gave way and most of the land opposite Mr Feast’s property soon became flooded.
