JAPANESE ATTACKS
THROWN BACK ON ARAKAN FRONT • ENEMY TROOPS AMBUSHED IN NORTHERN BURMA. ALLIED BOMBERS & FIGHTERS BUSY. LONDON, February 12. In Burma, there has been a flare up on the Arakan front, where reinforced Japanese units launched a sharp coun-ter-attack against the British forward positions. The enemy was thrown back at all points and suffered severe losses.
In north and Western Buf-ma guerilla forces are taking a heavy toll of enemy patrols. In one instance two lorries packed with Japanese troops were ambushed and many of the enemy were killed or wounded. The R.A.F. is continuing its attacks from the air. Blenheims, escorted by fighters, bombed three Japanese-occupied villages. Fighters attacked road and rail transport in other parts of Burma. Not a single plane was lost' in these attacks. The Chinese 'War Minister and Chief of the General Staff, General Ho Yingchin, and General Yu Ta-wei, head of the Chinese Ordnance Department, have arrived at Delhi, at the invitation of Field Marshal Wavell, to see defences and inspect Chinese troops. ' The Tenth United States Air Force celebrated its birthday by bombing Rangoon and the Mytinge Bridge, near Mandalay. Four formations of bombers participated. OFFFENSIVE RESUMED ON BURMA-YUNNAN BORDER. LONDON, February 12. Tonight’s communique from Chungking states that the Japanese have renewed their attacks on the border between Burma arid Yunnan Province.
