Driving In On Orel and Kharkov GERMANS BRING UP RESERVES IN ATTEMPT TO STEM ADVANCE INTO DONETZ AREA LONDON, February 10. . In Russia today 'another key point in Hitler’s rapidly crumbling’ winter line is threatened by Soviet forces closing’ in on Orel, half-way between Moscow and Kharkov, to the north of Kursk. The Russians are less than 40 miles from Orel. North of Orel, the line swings out to the west, so that the German positions are gradually being drawn into a pocket, right on the hinge of the central and southern fronts. South of Kursk, the Red Army is moving’ forward through heavy snow storms on a broad arc, about 40 miles from Kharkov. Well to the south again, the Germans are bringing up reserves in an effort to stem the Russian advance into the rear of the whole enemy position in the Donetz Basin. The Russians have brought big guns up from Stalingrad to south of Rostov and are battering the Germans across the Don.
